Purpose, Goal Setting, Conflict Resolution, and Entrepreneurship are the pillars of excellent leadership. The George Floyd Youth Leadership Academy will lead the way in creating our future teachers, doctors, lawyers, CEO’s, engineers, and community leaders.
Adult leadership tends to focus on issues of authority (voice, influence, and decision-making power). In contrast, youth leadership tends to focus on issues of ability (skills, knowledge, and talents). Our mission is to bridge the gap by operating from the following definition of leadership.
Leadership is a relational process combining ability with authority to positively influence and impact diverse individuals, organizations, and communities.
Goals & Objectives
- Participate in decision making opportunities in their community.
- Create supportive relationships with community leaders.
- Engage participants in a series of leadership training courses.
- Enlist the services of mentors, business owners, and civic leaders.
Further, their active engagement can help them develop self-esteem, confidence, and essential social and intellectual competencies and can provide an important foundation for future civic involvement. Leadership development programs will be announced in our news letter and posted in our calendar.
